datsun bre bicycle eric caprin 01

This is wild. Indonesian revhead and designer Eric Caprin has rolled out a new concept that transforms a Japanese Sanki bike into a would-be BRE Datsun racer.

Inspired by the Brock Racing Enterprises track cars of the 70s, Caprin’s frame wears the same blue, white and red colourway worn by the BRE Datsun 510 coupes.

There’s BRE Datsun graphics on the down tube, a classic Datsun graphic on the top tube and even a Datsun head badge.

Perhaps even more insane is the pair of custom-made wheels emblazoned with the logo of the Work Wheels brand.

Carry on.

Cyclists go a bit loopy when they spend too much time on the rollers.

Have you ever heard of anything more incredibly appropriate than a bicycle made from the body and parts of an old wrecked car?

Take a relic of a bygone era, with all its steel and non-biodegradable components, and re-purpose it into a symbol of green living. Perfect.

A frame made from the car’s useful steel, levers and lights from door handles and indicators, bar and saddle wraps from the car’s interior trim, and a ‘chain’ made from the engine’s transmission belt. Incredible.

Every product we create is based on a consumer insight, that’s also based on an emotion. In this case, the emotion bikers feel when they ride a bike that was made out of wasted cars.

Bicycled is not only a new type of bike, it is also a return to the roots of biking. It’s a handmade bike created specially by bicycle shop owners. Those fantastic creatures that are about to become extinct.

Surprising few cyclists, Victoria’s Bicycle Network has published new data that shows people who drive to work are growing fatter faster than those use “active transport”.

It also explains why I’m neither losing nor gaining belt holes; I ride enough during the week to maintain my weight, but not shed it (although if I can also lay off the fatty foods…).

Video: One Family, No Car.

Here’s a quick 1m30s video that visits a family of four in Vancouver, kicking through life with no car.

Feet, train, bus and bike, that’s all this quartet needs, and I love that. Cars are a major part of my life – I write about them for a living – but when it comes to daily commuting, even I prefer to bike.

Traffic is hell on the mind and it ain’t much good for the environment, we all know that. Bikes 4 lyf yo.

 Live with your Bike.

Life isn’t complete without a bike under you, and a home isn’t complete without one on the wall.
