CASIS x Shepard Fairey. There’s a pairing I never thought I’d see.
Prolific designer and street artist Shepard Fairey – famous for his ‘OBEY’ work and Barack Obama’s ‘Hope’ posters – has unveiled his official design for the patch of a new project on the International Space Station.
The project, managed by Centre for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS), is called ARK1, or Advancing Research Knowledge 1.
The patch will be worn by space workers (astronauts, cosmonauts, what-have-you) involved with the project, which will run from September this year, through to March 2014.
“It’s a really special thing. I’m just flattered and honored that I could create something that becomes just a small symbol of how things can move forward. The excitement of the unknown. To be part of that, is really a cool thing,” Fairey said of the project.
“I just peed a little, seeing the work of a favourite artist paired with the sheer bonkers awesomeness of space science,” Doshio said.
