Google Glass, also known as Project Glass, was revealed at last year’s I/O technology conference, promising a new generation of human-computer interfacing.

In simple terms, it’s the voice- and gesture-controlled computerised eye glasses we’ve seen in movies for years.

I’m not sure if Google is the first to produce something of this standard, but hey, it’s Google. That brings some promise of its own.

Glass has just moved out of the super-private beta testing phase, and Google is now offering regular folk the chance to explain why they deserve to be in the next stage of testing, which will include forking out US$1500 for a pair of the Glases.

…I want in.

Look at all this retro Nintendo kit that a friend of mine owned until recently. He put the whole lot on eBay last year.

I’ve owned a few bits and pieces of this in my life. The SNES (we got the Japanese model in Australia), the N64, most of the Gameboys… never had the original NES.

Damn. 

The funny part though is that a buddy gave me his SNES a couple of months ago, with NBA Jam, and I haven’t even plugged the thing in yet.

MiniDisc, We Barely Knew You.

It might surprise the average iPod and iPhone user to learn that Sony’s 20 year-old MiniDisc format is was still in production.

That all ended this week, with the announcement that production of the discs has come to a close. And, in fact, sales of Sony’s MiniDisc player range ended in 2011. Continue Reading…
